Our friends at Triple Echo are filming this years
Highlander for The Adventure Show on the BBC and they're looking for
interesting people to feature. We know you're all interesting and it's
hard for us to know who to single out so it would be great if you could
help us. If you'd like to be the next rugged TV star get in touch with
us so we can let Triple Echo know about you.
The location for this year's Highlander is in the wonderful hills around
Kinlochewe
From Inverness head North towards Dingwall on the A9 then take the
Ullapool road, the A835 west to Garve. Turn left just past Garve on the
A832 to Achnasheen then right at the roundabout (allegedly the only one
in Ross-shire?) to Kinlochewe
There are lots of Bed and Breakfasts in the area, the Kinlochewe Hotel
and a caravan park for caravans and motor homes only. There is a
campsite with basic facilities 2km west of the village on the A832 at
Taagan. There is a Youth Hostel and campsite in Torridon, 10 miiles
south west of Kinlochewe.
The Whistle Stop cafe 01445 760423 and the Kinlochewe Hotel 01445 760253
both do evening meals. However, they stop serving at 9.00 and 8.30
respectively and do get very busy so booking is essential. If you are
going to arrive later than 9.00 then eat on your way as there won't be
anywhere serving food in Kinlochewe
The Whistle Stop cafe will be serving breakfasts on Saturday from 07:00
Registration will be at the Village Hall. This will be signed from the
A832
Parking will be spread around Kinlochewe. Please follow marshal
instructions for parking on Saturday morning
Timetable
Registration Friday 16.00 - 22.00 and Saturday 6.00 - 8.00
Start times
C/D 8 - 9am. Allow an hour to walk to your start from Kinlochewe village
hall
A/B/Score 7.30 - 8.30. Allow 30 mins to walk to your start from
Kinlochewe village hall
All note that there is a strict course cut off at 17.30 on Saturday.
You must be at the finish by 17.30 at the very, very latest. The courses
this year are challenging and you do need to be sure that you can
complete your chosen course within this cut-off time.
There will be hot food at the finish of day 1 from midday onwards. Bring
money for beer at the ceilidh in the evening and for breakfast on Sunday
Bacon butties etc for breakfast will be available in the marquee at the
overnight camp on Sunday morning from 6.00
Day 2 start times are 7.00 - 7.30 for dibbing starts, 7.30 - 8.30 for
chasing starts with the fastest teams in each class going off last.
Prize giving will be in the village hall on Sunday at 15.00
